Shaman's Shadow in Progress

In progress.....ceramic mask on MDF with Flexall acrylic compound. Rough size 14" x 24".

Thought as aura...bubbles....pouring forth from the mind - a stream of charged quantum ions that mark each of us as individual. A distinct signature of hierarchical structure erected within the spatial matrix we occupy, these flames burn fluttered, born from the attoamps of the chemical mind.

Madonna of Vacuum

"Madonna of Vacuum" 26" x 19" x 5" deep. Mixed Media.

The Madonna...symbol of absolute faith...mother of the Saviour...the virgin vessel most sacred in some religions. I have adorned her with a halo of vacuum tubes indicating the very nature of total faith -- an absence of questioning in a radiance of warmth and light. Vacuum tubes have long been used in radios (and other equipment) for amplification of signals -- and here, perhaps it amplifies one's inner grace to something that makes it plausible enough to feel....to believe in...to worship.

Technology and Religion have long been at odds in some repects...and allied in others. Now, poised upon the cusp of technology becoming taken as faith by most, I believe the two shall begin to merge in so many strange ways. Imagine....implants to tap the very signals of Creation, the Bible, Koran (or any other religious tome) implanted for complete recall and guidance, on-board monitors for spiritual guidance......ones imagination isn't nearly as devious as Humanity coupled with religious fervour.

And so....I offer this as an exploration of that grey land between imagination and reality -- where saints are imbued with circuitry in the age-old endeavour to shed the beast and become God-Like.

The Box

"Shaman in a Box". Mixed Media. Approx 21" x 21" x 4" deep.

We exist in a wide-open cosmos -- each of us less than a speck of dust in terms of Universal Size. To cope, we build our boxes and insert ourselves within -- miniscule packages of Ego, iD and self. The Shaman attempts to find the key to a wider view -- that perspective that serves to unite the self and Universe. Some succeed. Some fail. The reward is not in the destination, but in the journey beyond the complexity of the ordinary.

Ah......Rapidly Revolving Wood....

I managed to escape to the shop this weekend and began roughing out a Cherry bowl. The wood is from a neighbor's tree that came down in one of our winter storms.
