Baltic Raku....aka Obvara.........

......first time I've tried this.   The unglazed clay pieces are fired to 1650F, then pulled and dunked into a mixture of water, flour and yeast.   Then into a bucket of water and set aside to cool.   I lost the first piece to thermal shock, but these three came out in varying degrees of interest.    The whiter piece is a different clay than the other two.   Much more experimentation is in order!

Tea Bowls..............

Interior is Georgies Mustard Ash glaze.   Exterior mid is a "roadside" glaze I concocted from material picked up near The Painted Hills, Oregon last summer (on the public road you take to the park, you see material washed down out of the surrounding hills and it accumulates on the shoulder).   It's a reddish granular material and is likely iron oxide mixed with clay,   I added Neph Syn and silica and it melts beautifully at Cone 6 and has just the right feel.

Amaco Ancient Copper interior with Ancient Jasper exterior.

Interior & exterior Amaco Ironstone.
