Martianware .... raku fired........


 .....and reduced.   Clear crackle glaze (although it didn't crackle much in this firing).

First firing of Martianware clay...........

 

Sanded with an orbital sander (60 grit).   I like this look.

I think this is what "normal" would be for a cone 04 firing.  This piece was on the bottom kiln shelf.

Fired to ^04, but on the top shelf of the kiln.  It's definitely over-fired as evidenced by the blisters.

............fired to ^04, but on various shelves in the kiln.   I think the Martianware would be happier in a ^06 firing.   The salts that form on the clay as it dries does produce a self-glazing surface.   I think the most promising results are from sanding the over-fired pieces with 60 grit sandpaper.   Next step is to perhaps glaze with a clear crackle glaze and try raku.
